The Dorothy Wycoff Pieris, more formally called the Pieris Japonica Andromeda - Dorothy Wycoff, is a popular ornamental shrub with a contemporary-meets-rustic style. Reaching between 5 and 7 feet tall, this evergreen grower has broad, glossy, dark-green leaves, and hanging racemes with stunning red flower buds that open into pastel-pink, bell-shaped flower clusters in early spring. Its intoxicating fragrance, reminiscent of Lily of the Valley, only contributes to the high-demand of this robust, compact grower. Native to the southeastern United States, The Dorothy Wycoff Pieris is very hardy and critter resistant, although some gardeners in areas with high populations of deer recommend using repellent spray, starting on planting day. The early spring nectar of the flowers is an excellent source for beneficial pollinators. New growth on the Dorothy Wycoff Pieris is deep coral to red in color, and mature leaves are a saturated emerald green.
